THE WEB DESIGN PROCESS
HOW TO GET STARTED
CLEAN, MOBILE FRIENDLY & VISIBLE
Choosing a name:
In order to create a website, you need to choose a domain name (short and sweet) that best represents your business idea. For example: www.jakeandjane.co.za. We will check if the domain name you have chosen is available. This domain name must be renewed annually to keep it active. If you don’t want to use it anymore, it will be closed down and available for someone else to use.
Web hosting is charged because your website needs a “home,” or a place to keep all the data. This is the space your website occupies on the internet and on our server. It includes storage for your emails and backend support where we make sure your system is up to date and your website runs smoothly.
Both the hosting costs and domain fee are charged upfront per annum. Once you have made this payment we reserve your domain name and open your hosting account for the following 12 months. You will then be notified 12 months later to renew your package.
The design process:
We require high quality photos. This is almost the most important part of your website. Good photos have good results!
You will also need to send us the text that you’d like to appear on your website. This text answers questions such as: Who are you? What is your product or service about? What are your contact details? What is the history of your business? We need any and all of your raw text in order to build your website.
Have you seen another site that you like? Tell us about it. It can help us get an idea of what you like and approximately how you would want your website to look.
Once we have an idea of your preferences and colour scheme, and we have received your images as well as all the text needed, we can start building your website. You will then be presented with a draft page, which you will need to approve, or that we might need to polish first, according to your preferences. Once you have approved the general template of your draft, we continue to build the entire site. After that, you can make small changes to the text or photos, but the main template is fixed.
Once the design process is complete, we optimize your website for mobile phones, tablets, and all other devices. We also focus on standard search engine optimization. Finally, upon final payment received, your site is published and ready to go.
Future changes:
All our websites are designed so that you can maintain it yourself if you prefer to do so. If not, just pop us an e-mail and we will gladly assist you at our per hour rate. If the changes you want to make are small, we bill a half hour only. If you want to make a big change to your website and the work is time consuming, we might bill you for an hour + or quote you separately.
